NUTRITION

general nutrition

As a R.H.N, I can guide individuals to navigate a wide range of health conditions and help them achieve their health goals. Every individual has a biochemical individuality, lives under different circumstances and enjoys a different lifestyle, thus each person’s plan is different from others - and that is why many general diet plans out there don’t work! My approach is wholistic: we see the body-mind-spirit of the individual and target both nutrition and lifestyle. In my career, I have not only supported individuals with reproductive issues and children, but also digestive and intestinal complaints, cardiometabolic diseases, immunity and aging-related illnesses such as arthritis.

PRENATAL AND POSTNATAL NUTRITION

During pregnancy, while nourishing the body as a whole is important, some nutrients are more vital than others depending on the trimester. Planning to ensure we provide the foetus and then baby with those nutrients depends on the client’s current eating habits, lifestyle and pre-existing conditions, so each pregnancy must be highly individualised. On top of nourishment, prenatal nutrition also encompasses herbs and lifestyle support for issues that may arise: nausea and vomiting, backache, stretchmarks, UTIs, cramping, heartburn, insomnia, swelling, constipation, high blood pressure, haemorrhoids and so on. This type of support is my specialty and also my passion: you will be in extremely caring hands!

CHILDHOOD NUTRITION

Nutritional support is offered since your little one is a newborn until 2 years of age (and beyond if needed). Not every woman can breastfeed, so if you need support reviewing different types of formulas and understanding ingredients and nutrient needs of a baby, I am here for you. If you can breastfeed, not only I can support you with nutritious meal plans that would nourish you and your baby, but I can also assist with issues arising from breastfeeding (soreness, milk supply, baby colic), and how to follow a plan to introduce solid foods after the baby is 6 months old (7-8 for pre-term babies). Not all foods are created equal, so it is important to follow the most up-to-date scientific literature on baby’s digestive development when it comes to introducing food, especially to avoid allergies, intolerances and other immune system reactions later in life.

FERTILITY FOCUSED

Fertility nutrition may include one or two main goals: normalising a menstrual cycle condition and/or supporting the reproductive system and whole body to achieve conception.

Nutrition and lifestyle can be key for many with female reproductive organs to normalising a menstrual cycle, taming or getting rid of PMS symptoms, managing ovarian conditions such as PCOS and endometriosis which make life very difficult, or simply being in tune with a more predictable cycle and its effects on our energy mood.

For conception purposes, not everybody can simply “take a multivitamin” and obtain enough support for conceiving, generating healthy eggs/sperm for assisted reproductive treatments, and maintaining a healthy pregnancy. Managing ovarian conditions is key, as well as replenishing stores of key vitamins and minerals (through food) that will be vital during each trimester, and getting into a lifestyle and routine that will be beneficial for both the pregnant person and the future baby.

Postpartum is an extremely vulnerable time when the birthing person needs all the support we can provide. Whether you have given birth vaginally or via C-section, it is a major undertaking for the body, so recovering takes a lot of time and care - no one should expect you to bounce back in record time. Similarly to prenatal support, support must be individualised according to the birth experience and issues arising from it: heavy bleeding, afterpains, tearing, incontinence, engorgement, milk under/oversupply, sore nipples and poor latching, and depression. Ideally, the first consultation would take place before birth so that we can prepare a postpartum kit and plan meals ahead. After the baby comes, it’s hard to muster the energy to prepare a healthy meal, or even find the time for it!
